Karate and Marvin the Molar Make a Great Team

Bedford Martial Arts Academy’s Elite After School Program

Welcomes Lindner Dental Associates Mascot, Marvin the Molar

What do karate and children’s dental hygiene have in common? A great deal, actually. Lindner Dental Associates, PC proudly provided an hour of fun and information to the children at Bedford Martial Arts Academy’s Elite After School Program.  On hand to speak with the children ranging in age from 5 to 9, was mascot, “Marvin the Molar”. Marvin spoke to the children about making sure they practice good dental care, including brushing twice daily, flossing, and staying away from sugary treats and drinks – all part of having a healthy body. The children also brushed Marvin’s teeth, showed him their best karate kicks, and had their pictures taken with him.

“It is important for children to develop good health habits early, stated Meg Steenbruggan, director of the Elite After School Program.  As health and wellness educators, martial arts encompasses a healthy mind and body, which includes good dental hygiene. Lindner Dental Associates’ mascot, Marvin is a great way to make children feel comfortable and have fun learning about the importance of taking care of their teeth.”

The event was well received and will now be an annual happening. “We are very pleased to be part of the Bedford community, and look forward to this event growing as time goes on, said Dr. Tracy Pogal-Sussman, Orthodontist. We are committed to our mission of providing the best dental care possible.” Children’s teeth in particular, are very susceptible to cavities and other dental issues and making it fun is all part of Lindner Dental’s mission. Karate and teeth, indeed do have a lot in common after all.

The Newest Technology In Orthodontic Treatment: LightForce Braces!

LightForce braces are 3D printed and fully customized to an individual’s needs.  The cutting-edge technology that comes with these braces allows for better accuracy and efficiency with orthodontic treatment. Here are 3 reasons to consider LightForce when it’s time to straighten your teeth and become more confident in your smile.

1. Fewer appointments than traditional braces

Traditional braces come in stock shapes and sizes. There is no customization. Therefore, your orthodontist spends a lot of time during ortho treatment fine-tuning to achieve a good result—sometimes needing to reposition the braces and sometimes by bending wires. This fine-tuning increases the number of appointments needed during your orthodontic treatment and increases the length of time it may take to achieve a beautiful smile. Since LightForce braces are designed to be fully customized these extra appointments for repositioning and wire bending can be avoided.

2. More efficient treatment

LightForce braces are digitally designed to be unique for you. Because of this customization and digital precision, treatment is more efficient.  This means that you may not need LightForce braces as long as traditional braces in order to achieve that perfect smile!

3. More aesthetic

LightForce braces are made with a ceramic material that blends in with the color of your teeth. Therefore, they are less noticeable than traditional braces. That being said, you can still choose fun colors to go with your LightForce braces if you are feeling festive!

This Spring, Be Sure To Watch Your Child’s Mouth!

A mouth guard may not seem like much, but they should hold top priority as far as sports equipment goes. With studies showing that athletes are 60 times more likely to suffer harm to the teeth when not wearing a mouth guard, it’s a small price to pay to avoid a potentially catastrophic dental emergency.  The options for mouth guards are numerous and range in price. For as little as a few dollars try a boil-and-bite mouth guard. These allow for a comfortable and custom fit, but tend to be a bit bulkier.  The best approach is a visit to your dentist to have a custom mouth guard formed. Though a bit more costly, these guards will be lower in profile, more comfortable, more consistently worn and more effective at preventing injuries. While it’s generally a no brainer to outfit your child with a mouth guard for contact sports like lacrosse, sports like baseball and softball, where a mouth guard isn’t a traditional piece of equipment, can pose an even higher threat to the teeth of an athlete. At the high school level baseballs can move well above 80 mph.

Play it safe: Make sure your young athletes have a mouth guard for all their athletic endeavors this spring.
